Important Update: COVID-19 Return to Play

July 31, 2020

BCBUA COVID-19 RETURN TO PLAY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE AND ACTION:

Baseball BC, the governing body of baseball in the Province, recently announced that effective July 24, 2020, club play (games between teams from the same club), will be allowed.

Baseball BC will also be permitting, effective July 31, for teams without an in-club equivalent, to play against other clubs provided they are limited to a 3-team bubble.

A specific example of this mechanism would be senior PBL.  This will allow for Abbotsford, Langley and White Rock to play games within that bubble, for example.

Other eligible groups would include; All PBL levels of play, All Tiered BC Minor levels of play, All Tiered Little League levels of play, Senior Baseball and potentially adult recreation leagues like the LMBA etc.

The complete set of Baseball BC return to play protocols can be found here: Baseball BC RTP

Baseball BC’s member organizations are tasked with creating and managing these 3 team bubbles for their respective membership.

BCBUA has created its own hub for a return to baseball, which can be found here: BCBUA COVID-19 HUB.  You MUST sign in to access the hub.  The hub covers all of the requirements for BCBUA umpires to return to the field and also includes important information including BCBUA’s Safety Plan and updated 2-official mechanics.  Key among the requirements is the completion of several waivers which must be submitted to your local UIC before stepping on the field.

Clubs are to continue to abide by governing body and local government rules regarding any current COVID restrictions in place.  Any club wishing to use BCBUA umpires in its games must submit a copy of its own return to play protocols to their BCBUA Area Rep, via their UIC.

BCBUA is working to remain abreast of the ongoing changes to return to play protocols as provided by various governing bodies and will provide updates as soon as possible when there have been any changes.
